If I could have married tennis, I would have. All I did was play, watch, or think about it. Actually, I was not even in the same zip code as the word “champion.” How could two guys, growing up in the same city, at roughly the same time, and playing the same sport have such different outcomes? Unlike Pete Sampras, however, I was not a champion. Both of us were skinny guys, with dark curly hair and a one-handed backhand.
